One recording, video and stills

A walkthrough usually needs both: a video for the flow, and a couple of still images for the doc, the slide or the bug report. ScreenTailor gets you both from a single take — scrub to any frame of the recording and copy it as a PNG, annotations included.

Why screenshot a recording instead of the screen

A live screenshot means recreating the exact moment — the menu open, the error visible, the cursor in the right place — a second time, just to photograph it. If you recorded the flow, that moment is already captured on every frame. Pick the best one and take the still from there; the transient states you can never re-pose (a toast, a hover, mid-animation) are the frames a recording catches for free.

Your annotations come along

The screenshot is the frame exactly as you decorated it in the editor. Whatever is on the preview lands in the PNG:

  • An arrow or glow on the button that matters — see effects.
  • A blur over the email address or API key that doesn't belong in a public issue.
  • A caption naming the step, or an emoji stamp — see captions.
  • The zoom framing you set, so the still is already cropped to the action — see zoom & emphasis.

Annotate once, use twice: the same arrows and blurs stay in the exported video and in every still you grab from it.

Clipboard, not a downloads folder

The camera button copies the frame to your clipboard as a PNG. Paste it straight into Slack, a Google Doc, a GitHub issue or an email — no save dialog, no hunting through Downloads for Screenshot 2026-07-08 at….

How it works

  1. Record your screen, or open an existing recording in ScreenTailor.
  2. Scrub the timeline to the frame you want.
  3. Add or adjust annotations — arrows, blur, captions, zoom — as needed.
  4. Click the camera button. The decorated frame is on your clipboard as a PNG — paste it anywhere.

Part of a full editor

Frame capture is one part of ScreenTailor's built-in editor — zoom, captions, effects, trimming and Checkpoint Recording live in the same window. Writing up bugs? See how it fits a bug-report workflow.

Frequently asked questions

Can you take a screenshot from a screen recording on a Mac?

Yes. In ScreenTailor, scrub to any frame of your recording and click the camera button — the frame is copied to your clipboard as a PNG, including any zoom, captions, arrows, blur and stamps you've added.

Where does the screenshot go?

Straight to your clipboard as a PNG. Paste it into Slack, a Google Doc, an email or a GitHub issue — no file to find, rename or drag in.

Do the annotations appear in the screenshot?

Yes — the screenshot is exactly what you see in the preview. Zoom, captions, emoji stamps, arrows, spotlight and blur are all rendered into the PNG. On the free plan the small ScreenTailor watermark is included too; a 14-day Pro trial or a paid license removes it.
